CryoFX CO2 Jet: Professional Specifications And What's Inside
Most CO2 jets look similar from the outside, and some of them are built from molds CryoFX designed. The DMX 512 body has been copied by overseas factories; so has the cannon handle we introduced on our handhelds. The outside stopped being the differentiator years ago. What separates a CryoFX CO2 jet is the internals, laid out below spec by spec, because we'd rather a buyer compare valves than paint.
The line
The CryoFX CO2 Jet DMX 512 is the workhorse: a single enclosure with DMX in and out on metal XLR jacks (3 and 5 pin), numeric DMX addressing, PowerCon power in and out for daisy chaining, an LCD panel, and a nozzle that rotates 180 degrees manually with a wrench lock. 18 lb (8.1 kg), 7 x 10 x 10 in (17.7 x 25.4 x 25.4 cm), 100 watts at 110 VAC with 220 available, throw of 35 to 50+ ft depending on conditions and setup. $889.
This jet is on more tours and in more US clubs than any other, has run Vans Warped Tour, Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, EDC, theme parks, and NFL and NHL buildings, and units in our own fleet have been in service over 12 years.
The Valve Jet DMX 512 ($789) is the same brain in a split body: the control enclosure mounts wherever power and signal live, and the valve and nozzle mount somewhere else entirely, under a booth, behind a wall, inside a set piece, with effectively unlimited distance between the two. It's the install configuration, and it throws 35 to 55 ft.
Around those two sit the Dual Nozzle jet ($949, 8.4 lb, two streams from one box), the Adjustable models ($799, the whole jet angles, base removes for truss), the LED Jet ($1,349, 2 channels, 18 three-in-one LEDs), the LED Jet Switchable ($1,599, 7 channels of full RGB with strobe and color mixing at 300 W), the Swing Jet ($1,399, 70 W, nozzle sweeps 180° on its own channel.

The valve
Every CryoFX jet runs a piston-actuated solenoid valve machined from a solid metal block: stainless steel, steel, or brass construction depending on the model, with a 10 mm orifice standard (8 to 25 mm across the range), Viton and PTFE sealing materials, a high compression spring, and a pressure rating of at least 1,450 psi against a working pressure of 850 to 900 psi. Duty life runs 50,000 to 60,000+ cycles, one cycle being one open and close.
Port size on the High Output valve is 3/8 in NPT, coil options run 12 or 24 V DC and 120 or 240 V AC at 30 watts, and the rated temperature range is -40°C to +50°C. Where the valve bodies are machined stays internal; the solid-block construction is the part that matters and the part we verify.
Competitors' jets run diaphragm valves. We've torn them down, and the failure modes are consistent: the diaphragm tears, punctures, dents, or sticks when it's held open through temperature swings, and it clogs on debris fine enough to pass a strainer. The manufacturers we've spoken with rate those valves at 10,000 to 20,000 cycles, and some max out at 700 psi, which puts them over pressure the moment they meet a tank on a warm day.
A piston in a machined block shrugs off all of it, and the one field failure pattern that has ever traced back to CryoFX manufacturing proves the point: a batch of valves at a dayclub install began sticking, and after ruling out tanks, filters, and gas supply, we opened the valves and found debris that could only have originated inside. Excess thread adhesive from a supplier's assembly step was freezing, shedding, and clogging the works. Production stopped, the process was corrected through a formal nonconformance and corrective action, every affected valve was reworked, and the failure never repeated.
The housing and electronics
CryoFX cases run 3 to 5 mm thick depending on the model. Consumer-tier and import cases run about half that, and a thin case dents at the first load-in. Inside, the electronics are modular: a power board, a DMX board, an LED board where fitted, sometimes combined. The most common board faults we see are self-inflicted: reversed polarity, 220 V into a 110 V unit, stray voltage on a shared line.
The fix is a board swap rather than component-level surgery, and CryoFX supplies boards for owners who'd rather swap at their bench; the capacitors and resistors on them are standard electronics parts for anyone who prefers to solder. The LEDs we spec are bright, run cool, and sit in housings that tolerate condensation and mild splash; direct rain is what the enclosure design keeps off them.
What the fire marshal sees
Every CryoFX jet ships with a cut sheet: product name, model and SKU, technical specifications, package specifications, and CryoFX contact information, formatted the way fire prevention bureaus expect, because our cut sheets have been through more permit reviews than any competitor's. On origin, CryoFX labels products exactly as they are: some designed, some manufactured, some assembled in the USA, in part or in full.
A jet with an imported valve is "assembled in America" under the FTC rule, and our labeling says so; several American manufacturers in this space claim more than their valves support.
Warranty
One year on manufacturer defects for enclosed jets, 12 months parts and labor on the High Output valve jet, and extended coverage of 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years available at a percentage of the equipment price, parts or parts and labor. What voids coverage is the same list that causes the failures: debris and fog fluid through the valve, the wrong tank, non-rated hose, opening equipment under pressure, and breaking the silver or red manufacturer seal tape on factory fittings.

Reading the numbers side by side
Put the line on one bench and the tiers explain themselves. The DMX 512 carries the metal XLR jacks, the numeric addressing, and the 1/16 in wall that reads as its case gauge on the older comparison chart, since updated across the line to the 3 to 5 mm standard; the consumer-tier Basic and Plus carry plastic XLR, dip-switch or digital addressing, and roughly half the wall thickness at half the weight, which is why a sandbag is mandatory on any unmounted consumer jet.
